LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF JOSEPH THE PATRIARCH - Part 17 – Comparisons in the lives of Joseph and Jes
  (1146 reads)
To conclude our 17- part bible study on the life of this great patriarch Joseph, I am going to make some comparisons between the life of Joseph and that of Jesus. It is fitting that this man whose life paralleled Jesus in so many ways was a man who was devoted to God and who sought to please Him in every way. He is without compare in the Old Testament. May he be our example!

1. Joseph’s birth was miraculous- Rachel was barren. Jesus was virgin born
2. Joseph was loved by his Father. God called Jesus “My beloved son”
3. Joseph was separated from his brothers. Jesus was separated from sin
4. Joseph had a coat of many colours. Jesus had a seamless robe.
6. Joseph was sent to his brothers. Jesus was sent to His brethren the Jews.
7. Joseph was hated by his brothers. Jesus was hated by His brethren the Jews.
8. Joseph obeyed his father. Jesus obeyed His Father.
9. Joseph dreamt he would rule over his brethren. Jesus has been exalted above all.
10. Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver. Jesus was sold for 30 pieces of silver.
11. Joseph was unjustly accused. Jesus was unjustly accused
12. Potiphar didn’t believe Joseph was guilty. Pilate didn’t believe Jesus was guilty
13. Joseph’s brothers plotted to kill him. Jesus’ brethren, the Jews, plotted to kill Him.
14. Joseph was sold by his brothers .Jesus was sold by one of his brothers.
15. Joseph was mocked by his brothers .Jesus was mocked on the Cross.
16. Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife. Jesus was tempted by the devil.
17. Joseph saved the world from starvation. Jesus was the Saviour of the world.
18. Joseph and Jesus were both 30 years old when they began their ministry.
19. Joseph was given a gentile bride. Jesus was given the church as His Bride.
20. Joseph found favour with the jailer. The centurion declared Jesus was the “Son of God.”
21. Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. Jesus will reveal Himself to His brothers.
22. Joseph ministered to 2 criminals. Jesus was crucified between 2 criminals.
23. Joseph saw his father again. Jesus went back to His Father.
24. Joseph was taken out of the pit. Jesus rose again on the third day.
25. Joseph’s sons were blessed by inheritance. We are blessed with inheritance in Jesus.
26. Joseph gave glory to God. Jesus glorified God.
27. Joseph wept when he saw his brother Benjamin. Jesus wept for Lazarus
28. Joseph was taken before a King. Jesus was taken before Herod.
29. Joseph was honoured. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father.
30. Joseph forgave his brothers. Jesus forgave us on His Cross.

I have not put the references beside the above statements. I did that on purpose so that you can search for them with your concordance. If you read through the chapters of the Bible that tell the story of Joseph’s life you will probably find more parallels
Let us end our studies by praying that the Holy Spirit will enable us, through grace, to put those same virtues as Joseph had in his life, into practice. This will bring great glory to the Lord!
